Chromecast for IOS Grade= Fail or Incomplete
Ever get a gift where the wrapping and the box is the best part of the gift? Well that is today’s feeling for Chromecast if your intention is to buy it to work with IOS devices like Iphone or Ipad. I spent hours searching and reading sites as to how does this work and have come to the simple reality and disbelief that Chromecast and an IOS device is 2 Apps 1) Netflix 2) Google Chromecast configuration. That is it! The works of this 9/4/2013 writing. Yes it works well with Desktops Mac & PC and Android devices via Google Chrome.
Here is my incomplete review:
Chromecast PRO’S:
- A Google supplied “configuration” App on ITunes to help you configure chromecast and join your Wi-Fi in minutes Chromecast App
- Work’s With latest Version of Netflix.
Chromecast CON’S:
- 3 Apps for IOS The Google Configuration, Netflix and YouTube
- Does not work with Chrome Browser for IOS
- Does not have a Youtube plugin for IOS Devices
- If you are looking for a compatible IOS Iphone or Ipad product today it is Apple TV Chromecast is not the product you want.
- If you are using it with an IOS device Netflix and Youtube will cast and that is it as of this writing.
- No published information as to what the Chromecast Dongle will do (Apps and programs non-casting from IOS Chrome) and what it will not do with IOS devices. This is extremely frustrating as one would think you would find more information at Google? Perhaps we are waiting for a big splash with IOS 7?
I am certain chromecast will be a remarkable player. Working with the product via my desktops and laptops and Macbook using Chrome… the chrome cast icon and the chromecast device configured quickly and worked well once I loaded the cast extension (Which is not documented 1) You must use Chrome 2) You must add the goggle cast extension to chrome)
This $35 device will pair nicely with Google Glass and an excellent add to any Android product.
I will reserve further comment for a 30-45 day catch-up phase of the product and know that there will be more than 1.5 IOS APPs working with the product.
